I had Dish Network for 18 months and I was please with them for the service and the pricing but here recently, I signed up for the DVR HD package and they came to install my HD receiver and the order was completely messed up and the next install date was 2 1/2 weeks later, so I called Direct TV and they said they have more HD channels now then Dish (over 100). Im just wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot by switching from Dish to Direct? I mainly wanting movie packages, I watch sports and I love the HD and DVR. Is this a good choice? Should I get that warranty that they offer for $5 a month incase anything physical happens to the equipment?

Please give me advice on both if you had both?

I have the next to last package also that they are offering the Xtra i think its called.

  1. I was actually a Dish customer for several years but recently got married and my husband wanted to switch to DirecTV because they have NFL Sunday ticket.  I have had excellent service so far with DirecTV, the only thing that took some time getting used to, for me at least, was how the menu is set up and re-learning what numbers the channels go on.

I signed up for the $5 just because I had some issues with Dish before, and had to pay a big fee to fix something that went wrong with the dish.  I haven't had to use the insurance with DirecTV as of yet.

I have no complaints with DirecTV so far!

    Hope that helps!

  2. I've had both.  I currently have Directv.  It's better, and the customer service is also better if you ever have a problem.

  3. Since you say you're looking for movie packages and sports then DirecTV will be perfect for you. It is a little more pricey than Dish, but you get access to current DirecTV exclusives such as the NFL Sunday Ticket. Also, DirecTV offers a large number of movie channels as well, most of which are offered in HD.

Also, get the protection plan. I highly recommend it, especially since service calls have gone up from $70 to $79 - in the end you're paying $71.88 for one year of protection and you can have an unlimited number of visits from technicians if the problem can't be solved over the phone - also, it covers your system from top to bottom, dish, cabling, receiver and remote, in case any of them fail due to normal wear and tear.

Just keep in mind, though, that if you sign up with DirecTV there will be a service commitment - if you get HD you will be required to keep service for 24 months or pay $20 for each month not fulfilled.
