  1. 10 neon tetras

    3 guppies

    maybe a few swordtails

  2. it all depends on what you like. you could get a female betta some tetras, a really cool fish is a albino rainbow shark but they need hiding places, some corydas, a pleco, swordtails, glo-fish, mollies are cool to, guppies, swordtails, whatever you like.

i would suggest going to the pet store and looking at what fish they have there and doing some research online or going to a  library and doing research.

  3. For a forty gallon I say you need at least one big pleco or two or three small ones.  For the mid and top dwellers, you could get angels and non-aggressive gouramis.  I always love watching the angels swim around in my 55 gallon tank!  They are SO graceful, and if you get them small, when they are like 6 dollars, and then raise them to be bigger, so you don't have to get a 50 dollar fish! That is what I like the most.  Raising fish is what I love more than anything about fish, whether its saving them when they are babies when a fish lays them when I am walking by in wal-mart, or breeding them at my house!  It's SO much fun to watch your fish develop in to such fascinating creatures!!  Also You didn't specify if you wanted big or small fish???  Hope I was a help to you!!

  4. alright there is rainbow fish, danios, any type of tetras, mollies i perfer silver lyritail mollies realy pretty, then get some cool loking hermit crabs. then get a armored catfish they are cool looking also jus research and u will find the one

  5. Goldfish are great fish.... they grow to be big... they are smart and friendly plus they will recognize you!

  6. sucker fish

  7. You've been getting some slightly skewed recommendations so far.

What you do with a 40 gallon depends on your tastes and experience, you're quite a bit more flexible with that size tank than, say, a 20 gallon.

You can go for a planted set up, or a rocky set up, an average community with common fish, or something where you've really had to hunt out your new pets. Most of the smaller tetras, rasboras, barbs will be fine in that size tank for instance. As will dwarf american cichlids. Its really down to personal choice and research.

Remember to put the tank through the nitrogen cycle first!
