I'm getting a Linksys WGA-600N gaming adapter....

it says it has to be configured using a PC, when I use it to play on my ps3 does my PC have to be on as well???

  1. No.  After you get the PS3 configured you will connect directly  to the internet with the wireless adapter, not through the PC.

    How this usually works is you hook it up to your PC and run a setup CD (not always in that order, read the setup guide), which programs it how to connect.  Then once it's been configured, you can unplug it from the PC/power outlet and reposition it wherever you need to use it...hook it up to your device (aka your ps3) and plug it into an outlet there.  It will remember the settings that were just programmed and connect to your network.

    If you can't get it working with the directions (I've had very bad luck with my Linksys printer server) call Linksys support or exchange it for another brand like Belkin or D-Link.

    For a game system, wireless G should be fast enough and is compatible with wireless N routers.  A faster wireless connection won't speed up your internet unless you have super-fast business grade internet that's faster than 54Mbps.
