Question:

I'm getting a failure code on the new radiant floor heat and think we probably wired it wrong.?

It's saying that the sensor wire is disconnected or shorted. Since it's not disconnected and did not get stepped on before the tile went down, we're wondering if we just haven't figured out how to wire it right. Should we use three wire? We have it on a 30 amp breaker b/c it was lying around at the time, but wondering if we should go get a 20 and that would be the difference? It's a 3' x 5', 120V with a 1.1 amp draw. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. It's definitely on the wrong breaker.

If it's 120V., a single pole breaker is correct, but

30A. is oversized. - It'll fail an inspection.

(For single circuit, 15A. is correct.

You may use 20A. if the feeder is #12 wire.)

"1.1 A draw" is only 130 Watts or so., It could share a local circuit.

The breaker should not make a difference in the

    control circuit.

Without seeing it it's hard to trouble-shoot.

Check the polarity in your power connections.
