I'm getting a gerbil tommorrow, what should i name it?

Its going to either be a siamese one or a white one.

First of all you need to get 2 same s*x gerbils otherwise just 1 would be lonely with a shortened lifespan getting fat his whole life. and for names you can do like me and name them wiggles and speedy

Please consider getting two of the same gender. Gerbils are social animals, and should be kept in same s*x pairs. I can say that if I didn't get my two gerbils together, the one I did have would be depressed. They sleep together, groom each other, eat together, and play together. You can spend all your free time with your gerbil, but it still won't make up for the lack of gerbil companionship.

Yep, you should definitely get two of the same s*x, preferably from the same litter.

If there are two in the cage when you go, get both.

Gerbils are social in the wild and need companionship.

For both you won't go through food much, if any, faster, or bedding.

They will groom each other so they don't get oily fur, and keep the other occupied to keep weight in check.

I have a pair of boys and they love each other to death.

However, most of the time, if one comes out to play with me, the other will stay in the cage to "keep watch". It helps them feel more secure. Not to say they don't both come out sometimes.

A 20 gallon tank works great for a pair, and then they can't kick out the bedding.

A pair is more fun to name, too, since you can do cute pair names like Salt and Pepper, Batman and Robin, Laverne and Shirley, etc. Or you can name them after their personalities: Speedy and Sleepy, or something like that, the possibilities  are endless.

So yeah, like a few people have said already- Get two. It's honestly a one-time cost of like, 12 dollars. Gerbils need gerbils.

Be careful if you try to introduce gerbils from different litters, though, it may take a couple tries before they act nicely. As long as they are young, the split cage method isn't necessary. :]
