Because I'm not too sure if we'll be able to afford it for awhile. We're getting the cat for free and I don't want to turn it down. I'll find a way to get the shots if i have to, but I'm just wondering if their was an easier or cheaper way.

  1. i dont think youre ready for a cat. the responsibility needed is obviously falling short.

can you afford food for your cat? toys? a litter box?

  2. they are if you want the kitten to be legal

i had to go to court because my dog was not properly vaccinated

and the ticket will cost more than the vaccination

different veterinarians have different prices on the vaccinations

do some research to find the cheaper vet in your area also

  3. If you can't get the proper vet care for the cat, then you shouldn't be getting the cat.  Shots are very important to prevent diseases that can kill the animal.

  4. atleast the first set of boosters to check for FHIV. You want to find out if kitty has it because it can be harder to find out later. The shots arnt that expensive and your going to want to get kitty checked for worms. I found a kitten and he had tapeworm. Gross to find, and you cant get anything over the counter for that. usually the initial vet visit will cost the most, but we were only paying 17$ every three weeks for his boosters and it was 43 for his last boosters, rabies and license. its always good to get them their shots, just for the first year if kitty is going to stay indoors. just shop around for vets, thats what we did.. good luck and congrats on the new kitty...

  5. Its about $120 for the full deal for the cat.

That includes checkup, first time register, bloodwork to test for leukemia and rabies shot.

  6. If you want it to live and be healthy, yes, shots are necessary. Rabies shots are a law. You cannot have a dog or cat without it having a rabies shot.  Feline lukemia is quickly becoming a leading cause of illness and death among cats, so not having a cat vaccinated against that would be extremely cruel and irresponsible. If we care about our pets, we find a way to get their shots.  They might be able to survive without them, but the risk to their health and lives is simply not worth taking the chance. Personally, I love my animals far too much to take that chance.

  7. It is necessary, the vacine's cover various illnesses and infections. Certainly it needs to be done when the kitten is old enough as being so young, it will be more vulnerable.

The booster vacines need then to be done annually
