  1. no offence but gerbils are up in day stink less and dont bite as much

  2. Dwarf hamsters are hyper, and all of mine were aggressive and they bit. They are holder to play with outside of their cage, because of their overload of energy (always trying to run out of your hands).

Syrians, however, can be just as aggressive, but I have had better luck with them. All of my Syrians were cuddly and /fairly/ calm. Teddy Bear and Black Bear hamsters are similar to Syrians in personality.

  3. Dwarf hamster - hands down!

Had teddy bear hamsters in my classroom.  They are really good at getting out of the cage and if they bite, because their teeth are curved inward and it is hard to get them off.  You have to clean the cage at least every 7 - 10 days.

My daughter has had dwarf hamsters for about 7 years.  She had a chinese dwarf and then 2 russian dwarfs - we like the russians better.  They don't usually bite and if they do it is nothing like a teddy's bite.  They do not get out of the cage and we clean the cage about once every 2-3 months.

  4. Both are cute and fun to have. However, in my experience, I would recommend a Syrian. They are very playful and cuddly. Dwarfs are, well, a bit TO active, and they are very fast and aren't as cuddly. However, both are still good pets. Also, if you get a Dwarf, you can get two or three of the same s*x, because they will get along. You can only get one Syrian, because they are solitary and don't like another hamster's company. Good luck! ^-^

  5. I think it depends on where u get them from.

I have a dwarf hamster (I originally went to get a golden hamster) but when i got to the pet shop and spoke to the staff, they helped me to decide that a dwarf would be better for me.

The golden hamsters they had weren't very tame and we quite grumpy.  The dwarf hamsters they had were lovely.

They let me hold each one and play with them for while.

The dwarf one won me over simply because of their inquizative nature.  they love to play.

However if the dwarf hamsters hadn't have been tame i would ave chosen a golden hamster.  they are quite a bit bigger and slower quite dosile and make a great first time hamster.

Id reccomend going to the pet shop and talking to the staff etc.

They also told me that dwarf hamstrs need cleaning out less often.  i do mine every 7 - 10 days, where as golden hamsters every 5-7 days.

good luck with your hamster hunting and let us know how you get on.

    xx
