I'm getting braces this week, do they hurt?

Question

I'm really scared when it comes to opening my mouth really big... =[

It just makes my mouth hurt, I tried opening really wide for a few seconds and they got all weird and dry.

Does it hurt to get the braces put on?

I don't wanna end up all big mouthed... =[

ok so honestly yes they do hurt

not really when this put them on

but after wards for 3-5days youll be in pain

takes meds before and a while after to nip it in the bud.

yeah its awkward sitting there with your mouth gaping open...

and just to warn you: your mouth is going to get sooooooooooooooooooooooo dry its honestly unbelievable! (this is, if youre getting youre top and bottom on at the same time) but bring along some lip chap for afterwards. lol you wont end up big mouthed!

it doesnt hurt at all when they put them on. you jsut have to get used to the feeling of them.

i remember the day after i got mine everyone was asking em "does it hurt yet?!" and i always said no...it never actually hurt for me after i had gotten them put on.

but, just in case you should keep some painkillers by you incase you want to take one.

sometimes what can hurt is the metal of the brackets or wires cutting into your cheek...so they SHOULD give you wax that you can put on your brackets or wherever you need it so that it stops the rubbing...

but you know what? youll be fine! it just takes time to adjsut to the cleaning, eating and feeling of the braces.

just think of the wonderful teeth youll have afterwards!!

Don't worry about having to keep your mouth open on your own. The dentist will have a special tool they use to hold your mouth open. It's not bad. Getting the braces on doesn't hurt at all. What I remember most is the smell of the cement glue they used to hold them on. Not horrible smell, just sour.

After the braces are put on each of your teeth, then the wire will be attached to connect your teeth. The part about braces that hurts, is the tightening of the wire. It can be pretty painful for the first few days after getting them tightened, but that's a part of braces. The point of them is to tighten that wire, moving all your teeth together making them straight.

Also another thing that can be painful is when the braces rub the inside of your cheeks and lips raw. The dentist will provide you with some wax that you can put over the sharp spots.

I had braces for 3 1/2 years. It was no picnic, but I'm sure glad I had them.

they dont hurt nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be ..trust .me.it may hurt a little for the first week then after that you wont even notice them anymore ,

and they put that thing on your mouth to open it up big, I have the same problem it hurts me too lol

* One thing I have to say tho is the spacers (the small rubber bands some people get before thier braces) hurts aot worse atleast it did for me
