I've been getting harassing and even threatening phone calls intended for the former owner of my phone number. I've tried telling the callers that there is no one here by the name they are asking for, but they accuse me of being that woman! I'm sick of it! I do not feel that I should have to go through the hassle of changing my phone number, what else can I do?

  1. Harassing phone calls are illegal.  My phone provider has a *55 or maybe its *57 where I hang up when I get the harassing call, immediately pick back up and dial their code (call the phone company, they will tell you).  This stores the number of the person who was calling.

If I do this three times, the phone company will contact the person calling and tell them to stop.  If they don't stop, the police will be involved.

I had this problem.  Used this service.  Sad part was, the lady was 90 living in a nursing home and was dialing one number off trying to get a hold of her daughter.  She called us 50 times in three days or so.  The police made contact and she felt horrible.

Your phone company will resolve this quickly and effiiently!

  2. i have mediacom phone and you just call a * number. if you dont just call the cops but not the 911 just non-emergency

  3. Talk to the phone company.  Threatening calls are against the law and the phone company can help.

  4. Get a new number. Tell the phone company what is happening

  5. File a police report. Even if you never follow up with it and they never call you again, it's a good idea to have it documented.
