So my mother in law flew in from the Philippines this weekend and we were talking a little bit about the standard of living. My mother in law is redicously rich. All she does is own a small store. They just finished a huge 7 bedroom home. They are buying a $35,000 car in the Philippines and taking this 6 month vacation here in the USA. All of it is paid for in advance in cash. She called home last night to make sure her son paid off a simple credit card bill. It happened to have a $4,000 usd balance on it. The list goes on and on.

  1. My cousin's grandma is from the Phillipines, and she's very rich. They know how to use there money, I suggest talking to your mother in law.

  2. I wouldn't get too jealous. She sounds like the exception, not the rule.

  3. Why be jealous.  Soon all Americans will be living in a 3rd world county (War, Gas Prices, No Jobs).  I'm leaving the States next year to go live in a 3rd world country myself and I am actually looking foward to it.

  4. is this all in american money? they could be rich down there but average in the u.s.  they just aren't in poverty there and are doing well, up here i doubt they would be doing half as good. but you know what good for them, why dont you ask them how they do it, plus sint everything cheaper down there? maybe they are drug dealers, hahahaha just kidding!!

  5. I had a friend whose parents brought him to the philippines when he was a kid.  They were so amazed with the way they could live there, they saved up a few thousand dollars and moved there.  They said you can live like a king on about $1000 a month.  It may have changed now with our economy and currency taking a nosedive, but still, nice people in a beautiful country.

  6. Why are you jealous. WOrk hard and you can have more as well.

  7. Yeah, because that's representative of 3rd world countries... Everyone living in mansions, with multiple luxury cars, travelling the world on expensive 6 month vacations because they don't even have to work, people just give them money because they're so special...

oh and the streets are paved with gold...

  8. Thats The Way it is . . . . Problem is Prices in USA very

high , , , on the other hand you will find that US Dollar is very

rich currency in 3rd world countries which mean you can

live as king if you have american money ...........

  9. And you're jealous, why?  You live in the USA, where you got opportunity galore to make it big.  In the Philippines, the competition is much more fierce, the job market is dismal at best.  To get a job at the lowest ranks of a corporation, you need at least a Bachelor's degree.  70% of the people live below the poverty line.  My mother came from a fishing village where the entire population lives off of shanties and goes out to fish everyday.  If they come home with fish, they eat three-squares.  If they don't, then they starve until the next fishing trip.  If you're handicapped - a missing leg, a missing arm... you are out of luck - nobody will give you a job - even working as a DJ where you sit on a chair all day long without need for arms or legs!

Your mother-in-law applied her business acumen to start up a great business and thrive.  My brother starved for 12 years in med school (and that's UP Diliman, mind you!).  He went through 3 years of residency program where he was only paid 6,000 pesos a month while the rent for his apartment was 8,000.  He struggled.  But now he is a well-renowned neurologist making tons of money with each kid having their own nanny.  If your mother-in-law and my brother would have grown up in America, they would be the same - successful and rich.  It is because they applied themselves.  You can do it to.  It is easier in America since there are jobs everywhere and assistance programs for everything.  The problem is, you are too lazy to find a way to get ahead with the resources given to you...

  10. I hear you, although I still live here. I have lived in a 3rd world country and I will retire there. There are benefits as well as set backs.

  11. are you jealous of the country or your mother in law?

  12. ppl in 3rd world countries no know to save and no take money for granted. We (US citizens) take EVERYTHING for granted. If we learned to save and use money wisly we probally could do the same.

  13. Don't be jeoulous of 3rd world countries. I've been all over and even as some do extremely well, the over all situation is not changing that much. Take Mexico for instance, they happen to have a lot of wealthy people but  they are not paying their share of the taxes. Land owners over in Mexico that do well are not small time operators. They own mega acreage and rake in good profits while the rest pay them with time and sweat. I could go on and on,but no other country will ever be as good to the rest of the world than the U.S.A. We are said to be evil and that is fine if they wish to. Think about what would happen if we just simply stopped giving!    jim

  14. yeah they do know how to save and administer their money

  15. If you really believe that living in Honduras is better living conditions than the United States, I encourage you to fly out there and spend a day or two there. Mingle with the locals!

Also you are sorely uneducated if you believe that the Philippines is a third world country. Some of those asians live quite well---just keep in mind if you are scrubbing the feet of the owner of the 7 bedroom home you might just with you were in the United States.

Also keep in mind immigrants DO come here for a REASON! :)

Hope that clears up the clouds that surround your cranium.
