what a friend of the family did was burned CD's with special songs, like your first dance, songs you played at the wedding.  Printed off covers for the cases on his computer with a nice message from them, their names and the date of the wedding.   It was really sweet. someting people will use (they also asked that on their rsvp's everyone list their 3 favourite songs).

I found a cute idea on Wilton.com where they wrapped a cookie cutter in ribbon and then put a wire on top to make it a name card holder.  We are going to use leaf cutters and use decorative wire with card pieces thanking our guests for coming.  (not doing assigned seats).

We are giving out candy favors in cute boxes, but in addition to that we are giving each person a votive candle.  I know the idea of a candle isn't unique, but the unique part of this is that the candles are personalized with the GUEST'S name, so it is a keepsake they will want.  Also we are using the candle as a place card in lieu of the traditional place cards.  The guests find their candle, bring it into the reception hall, and light it and set it at their assigned tables. :)

my husband and i got a bunch of wallets of our engagement picture with our names and wedding date on them and had them sitting on the  table with the programs. our guests took almost all of them and really loved having a picture of the people they care about

personalized m&m's!!  you can get your names &/or the date on them in colors that probably match yours.  also, I went to a wedding where the bride and groom put a hersey's hug and a kiss in a spoon and put meshy type fabric (can't think of what it's called!!) and then tied a ribbon around it with a note that said "a spoonful of hugs and kisses from the Mr. and Mrs.!!)  It was super cheap, clever, cute, and tasty!!!  and it ryhmed.  who doesn't love a charming little rhyme?
