I'm getting my braces off tomorrow and I'm SO relieved. I have had them for 2 and half years...since I was 12. So, can somebody possibly run me through the process? How long will it take? Will I have to remain at the orthodontist's office after my braces are off to take x-rays and stuff? How long will that take? Thanks!

  1. they take the brackets off, which is kind of freaky cause they crack them off, but it doesn't hurt.. that takes about a minute

then they use this really little tool to get all the cement off and to shape your teeth a little bit..it spins so quickly that it gets really cold, and this can cause sensitivity and pain..it also smells like burning, which can be unpleasant..this part takes the longest and is the most difficult to deal with

then they take a mold with trays full of stuff that turns rubbery in your mouth..they probably used it when you got your braces on

    then they make your retainer!

  2. The whole process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.  The brackets will first be removed and the remaining glue will be scrapped off. This part takes the longest.  The teeth will be filed to make a perfect bite, then they are polished.

They'll take molds of your new teeth so that they can make the retainer for you which can be picked up the next day.  You'll also have x-rays taken to have visual comparison.

You will LOVE it, that you won't stop looking at your teeth in any reflection you pass by!! :)

  3. Im happy for you. I am going through the process right now with getting the braces. I got my expander and the spacers in my mouth at the moment. It will probably take about an hour.
