Question:

I'm getting my braces off in an hour! HELP!?

Ok well, I just brushed and flossed my teeth. Then used a waterpick. Is that enough? (I brush my teeth again when i get there)

But when they take your braces off, before hand, do they make sure your teeth are clean?

Also, I keep worrying that my teeth will be discolored. I brushed my teeth1-2 times a day, but i didn't floss that much. But i've never had a cavity before...

So the people who have had braces off, how does it feel, and were your teeth perfect and white and not discolored when you got them off?

Thanks! Have a nice day. I'll give 10 points.

  1. yes...thats definetly good enough. you shouldnt even have to brsuh your teeth again when you arrive,a s long as you did a good jiob the first time..

i dont think they were too concerned with how clean my teeth were before i got mine off (i mean i always brished before i went) they just dont worry about that

    heres whats gonna happen:

it shouldnt take too long...it doesnt hurt but it just feels awkward.

first they pop open your rbackets and remove the wire

then theyll use this tool to pull the brackets off your teeth (this is the part that feels strange...but if it does start to hurt you just raise your hand to let your ortho know. you could also take a painkiller before going, but i dont think you will need it )

then theyll take off the gun with a different tool. i willa dmit that this part is quite disgusting! theres smoke...and it smells bad. if you do see smoke, dont worry about it. it can be quite alarming at first lol!

anyways, they just take off almost all the glue...they prolly wont get all of it off that day. so as soon as your done at the ortho book an appt to see your dentist, theyll take it ALL off for you.

the glue that the ortho doesnt take off will look like small yellow "stains" on your teeth...dont worry! they will be gone as soon as the glue is taken off

you can always run out and buy some crest whitestrips to use if you like, but why bother waste the money? my teeth are perfectly white now, ever since i had the excess glue removed!

then i think they may take another mould of your mouth without the braces...for your retainer

theyll probabaly get you to wait there while they make your retainer up (it took about 30 mins for me) and you put it on and theyll check it over to make sure it fits perfectly, and they might tell you how to care for it...

and then youre free with your perfect teeth!!!

oh, but when they take the glue off, if your ever feel your tooth getting HOT..raise your hand so that they stop...if it starts feeling hot then the tool has taken off all the glue and is touching your enamel...and you really dont want to lose the enamel on your teeth!!!

hey congrats for survivng braces! its tough...

but it feels amazing now. oh yeah, and even though everyone says it: you will not be able to stop l*****g your teeth and feeling the nice smoothness of them

  2. You'll be fine, and getting them off, didn't hurt me a bit. I didn't actually brush my teeth as much as I should of, nor did I ever floss, and I haven't got a single mark on my teeth. In addition I drank a can of coke most days so you'll be fine I think.

It feels really weird once you have them off, actually being able to feel your teeth, is at first somewhat odd. I had mine on for about 14 months which was quite a while so I think you just get used to it, but your mouth will sort of feel a lot smoother. I couldn't stop running my tongue around the outsides of my teeth for about an hour.

  3. your teeth will be fine as long as u have taken the proper care you should have while having them on.... your just nervous, your teeth will be beautiful when they come off... relax!!!!

  4. Relax. They will remove your braces and clean your teeth. They will take impressions to make your retainer. Then you will go home. It will feel so cool and you won't hardly be able to stop sliding your teeth over your teeth. Congratulations.

  5. I know for a fact your teeth do not have to be 100% clean to get them off. But I do know if you didnt brush behind the bar going across your braces, then you will have discolouration. But most likely from what i hear, you wont have any discoloration.

    GOod Luck!

  6. I wore braces for 3 1/2 years. Sounds to me like you've cleaned your teeth just fine. When I got my braces off it was a weird feeling. You've been so used to feeling the metal against your lips and tongue, it feels kinda slimy to have your teeth all smooth. There won't be any discoloration and they will definitely make sure your teeth are perfectly clean before you go home. Congrats on getting them off, I'm sure your straight teeth will look great!

  7. I got my braces off two years ago, and let me tell you, I did NOT take very good care of my teeth during that time period.  I only brushed them once a day and I never flossed.  There isn't any pain in getting your braces off, it just feels different once they're off.

When mine were off, there wasn't any discoloration (at least none that wasn't there already), and I still have zero cavities today.  You are going to be fine.  No matter what happens, your friends and family will still love you as a person, and a lot of people won't notice a bit of discoloration in your teeth.  They'll just notice your smiling face, and how good you look without those metal burdens!
