I'm getting my braces on tomorrow??

When I got braces I first got the brackets (little metal "holders") glued on my teeth. About a week after they put on the wire.

The brackets don't hurt at all as they create no tension in your mouth. However they might scratch the inside of your mouth a bit. The dentists always gave me wax which I would then knead a bit with my fingers (to heat it up so it would stick) and afterwards put on the brackets to keep them from scratching. It would come off when I ate so I'd apply new after eating.

If your dentist doesn't give you the wax be sure to ask for it. But I'm pretty sure they'll give it to you. Standard procedure I think.

Anyway after a week (or a few days) you'll get the wire on.

It will hurt because of the tension, so just eat soft food (pb&j sandwiches, yogurt, ice cream, mashed banana etc.) for a couple of days until they stop hurting so bad. They will stop, trust me.

I chewed a lot of gum then my braces hurt because I thought it helped relieve a bit of the pain.

Um... what more.. words of wisdom: don't eat chewy caramels or try to shove a huge lollipop into  your mouth, especially if you have a metal wire going across your palate from one side of your mouth to the other.

I broke mine in the middle of summer vacation and had to live with my own diy solution for a month or two.

Didn't hurt at all but d**n annoying!

I think that's all. OH! when your teeth stop hurting you will want to go back to solid foods. At that time remember to bring a toothbrush or something else to clean between your braces and teeth after you've eaten. I don't think you want food stuck in your braces.

i know this is sort of weird but eat right away! your teeth don't feel that they are banded yet so eat! when i first got my braces i was actually in a meeting and i started to eat, it was sort of hard but my teeth didn't hurt. I waited like 3-4 hours afterwards to eat and my teeth were in so much pain! =[ So if you're hungry go go go!

or you can eat soft foods.

unless you have a really severe case, it will not hurt at all when you first get them on. but they will later that day, so take some pain meds before the appointment, and don't plan on eating hard foods that night or the next day. use meds every four hours and eat soft foods. you will feel like ripping the braces off for a few days, but i swear it goes away. i got my first set of braces last week and now i am absolutely fine and eating everything. hope this helps. it's worth it for a beautiful smile!
