I'm going up with my dad and my friend, and afterwards me and my friend are going to go up town and then go to eat Pizza (about two hours later). Will I be able too, or will my teeth by too sensitive? And do painkillers really help? Thanks! =D

  1. Hi Paige, my daughter had her brace tightened today and she was ok, she says her teeth sort of ache and it hurt slightly when she was munching on some chocolate.  Make sure your dad has got some paracetamol on him just in case you need some but I'm sure you will be fine.  Enjoy your pizza!  (Loz's partner Caz)

  2. It will hurt for a while but sometimes they don't hurt at all it's weired. When I use to get mines tightened I would expect them to hurt but my dentist told me just because they don't hurt it dosen't mean the braces are not doind their job I think you will be fine.

  3. this may be just me, but i was in killer pain after every tightening. i couldnt eat good foods, like pizza ;), for like 3-5 days :(

perhaps i have a low pain tolerance? but then again i have damon braces, so maybe if you have a different kind of braces you will be more comfortable :)

edit: painkillers did help a bit, but not completely.

  4. depends what your "hurt" is... if its an uncomfortable pain then yes.. if its like stubbing your toe no. but it will be really uncomfortable becuase there pushing your teeth... they will hurt for maybe an hour and then the pain will go away

if your worried take paracetamol it will help (:

  5. when i had braces it never hurt.

    but everyones teeth are different.

    take 2-3 naproxen sodium tablets.

    they work wonders.

  6. it will ache for a day or so, then be fine again

  7. That depends on how long you've had them. Since your asking the question though I'm guessing that you have only had them for a month and this would be your first time getting them tightened. Word of advice...eat something soft, like soup, afterwards. As to your mouth will hurt, tonz! I have braces and I've had them for two years and it still hurts sometimes when I get them tightened. It also depends on your orthodontist. But Mine isn't that tough on me and doesn't tighten them too tight all the time. Unless he really has to. but I would say go somewhere that you can get soup or something...Painkillers don't work for me all the time. Depends on the painkiller...I had one one time that my orthodontist reccomended but I can't remember the name. You should ask your ortho what kind of pain killers you should take...Your Welcome...if you have any other questions about your braces just send me and e-mail...hisbaby831@yahoo.com

P.S. you might want to ask for some wax for your braces or for a brace guard/lip protector because for the first couple months your braces might get caught on  your sides of your mouth

  8. It won't hurt as much as they did when you got them in. It'll be very tender for a while; it hurts for me like h**l, because i have a rapid extension thing, that has to be tightened every day! But for normal braces, it will be tender and I would be inclined to take an afternoon to do what you like... i would not reccomend pizza, you'll be able to do it, but it will hurt... painkillers help a bit, but they take a while to kick in, so take them as soon as they've been tightened. :-) Hope thats some help.

  9. It probably won't hurt during the adjustment itself, but you might get some discomfort later that day and the next day. Pizza might be a bit tricky!

Taking 2 nurofen 1/2 hr before the adjustment and every 6 hours afterwards will help relieve any discomfort.

  10. you'll be fine. Take the pain killer...Tylenol, Advil, aleve whatever  about 30 min before you go get them tightened and take them every 4-6 hours for the first day or 2. You will be fine and have a great time with Dad and friend :)

  11. I only had the braces u cud remove, but it remember it was uncormfatable for a day or so after, only painful the once but that was dentist tightened it wayyyy to much (he slackened it when i went back a week later after it hurting the entire time - dont wanna worry u lol honest) as for the pizza, i wouldnt, your teeth will be a little sensative and i doubt you will enjoy it to the max, and if you have braces stuck to yor teeth, the cheese will probably be h**l to get out

  12. Well, its uncomfortable cause the dentist is pushing your teeth closer or lining them up more or whatever, it shouldnt hurt for about an hour, but then it hurts a bit, not loads, just aches a bit, i suggest you dont eat pizza and just get pasta or something.

Also it depends how you cope with paiin and wherther you have a high pain threshold or not

Painkillers can help. Ibruprofen is the best

    hope this helps

hoe it doesnt hurt too much!! :)

    x*x

  13. Its quite uncomfortable, but if you have a low pain tolerance then it shouldn't hurt as much, as someone with a high pain tolerance. But the pain subsides completely in about 1-2 weeks max.

  14. If its your first time tightening your braces then it will feel weird and uncomfortable, if it's not your first you should be used to the "pain".

But yes a simple Tylenol or Advil should clear up the pain.

Although, I've had my teeth tightened over 18 times, and I really never used a painkiller, so it really doesn't hurt. :) But bring a painkiller just in case.

  15. I had my braces adjusted and all went well. It went so well that I was able to take my belt off.   lol

  16. mine always did and i could barely brush my teeth let alone eat
