I'm getting my first car?

I'm just starting my first year of college and I really need an affordable car. My budget is about 2500 any ideas on a good reliable car and also what are some obvious signs of a crappy vehicle?

get a car no earlier than a 1999. Some good things about a car are good gas mileage and GPS. some signs of crappy cars are if you test drive it it kicks (transmission problem), engine sputters, some vehicle controls dont work, etc.

im going to college and i have a  1996 chevy lumina that has lasted me a year and going strong....it has 120000+ miles on it...

Look for a Chevy / Geo Prizm, it's a Toyota Corolla rebadged as a GM product - you'll get Toyota reliability with GM depreciation / the most car for your money. For basic transportation nothing's going to beat a Corolla.

Find a friend who knows cars that's over 21 - otherwise you're going to find people telling you to get a shitbox Eclipse (the cars can be alright, but not at your price point) or a car newer than '99 (for $2500 the year is going to be a lot less important than the condition / maintenance history). Have that friend go car shopping with you.

Dents can help you get the price down, but a car can be covered in dents with an immaculate drivetrain. Conversely, a car can look fantastic but still have been beat to h**l under the hood. Try and find something with receipts showing that all factory-recommended service has been done.

Well it depends, if your into Sports cars.. you can find a Mitsubishi eclipse for around 1500 . And its about 30 mpg. wich is very good for a coupe. You can tell if it's crappy if it smells like your dad's ***. :). But really look for dents, and ask for a test drive.. And don't be easy on the price! negotiate to see if you can go any lower. White people are sometimes dumb. so you can kick prices down couple 100 sometimes!
