Question:

I'm getting my learner's permit tomorrow...?

I need to know what to expect so I can reduce my chances of failing the test (unlike my friends who have failed the test numerous times.) Was it mostly common sense? Did the test require a lot of studying? Was it easy or hard? Were there some signs that you have never even seen before? etc.

I have been studying for the past week and I have confidence that I can pass the test. I have been taking the online tests constantly and I have reviewed over the drivers manual.

Please help because this is kind of a big deal to me and some advice would be helpful. Thanks.

  1. You just need to study the driving manual. Seriously, if you know that then you're set. Driving tests are usually just a little common sense with a few facts mixed in. Usually they take a big mix of questions, like 1 or 2 questions from each section of the book. The first time I took it, I only studied the night before (I'm a crammer!) and I passed it. To me, most of it is just common sense. Like, if there's a blind person crossing the street what do you do? You stop and wait for the person to cross and safely make it to the other side of the street. I think that was one of my questions. They're obviously not going to put anything on the test that isn't in the book so just make sure you know the book. The online tests are helpful too so keep taking those. If you've been studying for a week then I'm sure you're ready. And if you fail it, you don't have to wait that long to take it again right?

Another helpful way to study is to have somebody test you. Find someone and give them the driving manual and have them ask you random questions. good luck!

  2. First of all, I want to wish you the best of luck!

My daughter just took hers on Saturday. Here in PA, it was an 18 question test and she needed to answer 15 correctly. She only missed 2, so now she has her permit. It sounds like you are going about your studying the same way she did. Make sure you re-read the manual, take the on-line tests, and get a good nights sleep before taking the real test. My daughter said to be careful of the wording on the questions (they might slip a “not” in somewhere) and to try to remember the technical items (like “high beams” going 250'). She emphasizes to re-read the manual several times. Hope this helps and, again, GOOD LUCK!

  3. Yeah its not very difficult, about half is common sense and the rest is like rules about driving, such as speed limits, high and low beams and other things. If youve been studying like that then ur sure to pass.
