I'm getting my wedding dress made for me...?

I'm not sure if anyone knows the approximate price range that most seamstresses charge to make a wedding dress. I am having a lady I know make my wedding dress for me, and I am a little scared on what the price is going to be. She said that she will have the price for me next week.....but I just didn't want to be shocked and not know what to say if it was overly expensive. Well you have to add in all the costs...

Labour:  (approx) $1000.00

Thread:  (approx) $10.00

Material:  (approx) $1000.00

Lace:  (approx) $100.00

TOTAL:  (approx) $2110.00

These are only rough estimates as to how much it is going to cost.  If the material is silk you may be looking at quite a bit more cost their - and the labour may also cost quite a bit more too depending on how much she specifically charges.

if that is the dress you want, just buy it and get alterations to have it fit you perfectly. It will most likely be cheaper that way.

Labor fpr a gown like that would be around $600 at the very least.

Think about it, I just got a jacket altered and the bill was $89.

In most cases, a made-to-order gown will cost as much or more than a one off the rack

you should have given her a price range, that's what I did, so when she tries to raise the price, you could have told her you gave her a price range and that wasn't in it. Its a very pretty dress though, so good luck and don't stress about it too much, even if your wedding day isn't perfect, it still will be great.

I would charge a little over $500.00 that includes the materials and labor. I don't know what she charges by the hour for labor but I was doing it at 30.00 hr at 10 hrs, Could be done quicker than that though. Here is a break down of what materials will cost.

Fabric: Taffeta $8.95 yrd     10yrds=89.50

Lace appliques for the top: $59.00 yrd and up     1yrd=59.00

Lining: 2.00yrd       10yrds=20.00

Netting: 2.00yrd    10 yrds=20.00

Boning: 5.00pack      2packs=10.00

Zipper: 3.00

Thread: 2.50 1 spool      2 spools= 5.00

Labor: 30.00 @ 10hrs

This is a pretty close estimate of what it would cost. It could run a little higher or lower depending on sales and what kind of lace or taffeta you use. I am a seamstress and have been custom making and altering formal wear for about six years, so this is the price I would give you.
