All four are still in my jaw bone and I wanted to know what kind of sedative (IV or general anestesia?) they typically use and what the recovery will be like. Also, how long is the surgery?

  1. i got put to sleep.... with an IV.

recovery was okay... they give u good medication.... but my cheeks were real swollen and bruised for about a week..... buy a lot of pudding and jello and soft stuff to eat for the first few days

  2. When I had mine removed I got the gas and put to sleep....with IV meds....not sure what it was called. Recovery was fine. I didn't feel hardly any pain at all.

  3. I had mine removed this morning.

General anesthesia is injected into you through an IV that keeps running during the procedure.

I don't know about recovery. I just got it done today.

Well, it typically takes 5 minutes for each tooth so if you're getting 4 done, then about 20 minutes. But when you're in it, and you're put to sleep, it feels like 1 minute. Once the anesthesia is in you, you are out like a light in less than a minute and the next thing you know, you're awake and the surgery is done.

  4. OK.

I've had oral surgery 5 times.

When you go for a consultation ask them if they have the patch.

You put it on a certain amount of hours before you go in for the surgery.

What it does, is it numbs the arm where the needle will go.

When you get there, they'll hook you to the heart monitor and all the other monitors.

They'll put the medicine in you to make you go to sleep.

Usually takes about 5 minuets or less.

After you get done with the surgery you'll probably be asleep for a while.

Probably the rest of the day.

If it's your first time, you may throw up.

    Depends.

After that, it will be painful so make sure you have your pain medicine.

Depends on your age of whether you should get liquid or the pills.

The liquid loratab you can control the dose so you won't end up all dizzy.

    With the pills you can't.

After about a couple of days you shouldn't need the pain medicine.

The stitches should dissolve unless they use the other kind.

    Good luck!

  5. i can tell you what all 4 of my wisdom teeth were impacted. i had no insurance so the doctor told me to go without he doesn't practice putting people to sleep
