  1. no but take the pain meds as soon as can after

  2. no need to be scared.  i just got all 4 of mine removed yesterday.  its not that bad at all.  a little sore that night but today im feeling nearly back to normal.  just remember to eat soft foods (yogurt, pudding, soup, soft ice cream) and dont drink out of a straw, spit, or cough for a couple of days or you could get dry socket and i heard thats really really bad.

    good luck :)

  3. i just had my wisdom tooth removed last week. of course there's no reason to be afraid. it is a very simple procedure. there would be a topical and injected anesthesia so you won't feel a lot of pain. you might develop headache and difficulty eating but it is manageable. your dentist will also give you pain relievers.

  4. No, just relax and don't stress out about it. It's nothing to worry about. I really hate dental work, so getting a surgery in my mouth was no fun for me to think about either. But I just had four of my wisdom teeth removed last week, and I can tell you that it is not worth worrying about.

They will give you a gas mask for oxygen and they also say they will give you some laughing gas. Most of the time, the laughing gas will make you feel a bit light-headed and relaxed so you won't even notice if they put the IV in you. For me, the laughing gas has no effect on me so I was completely conscious for the IV. The surgeon put a rubber band around my arm so they could see the veins more clearly and it was a tiny pinch and the IV was injected. It feels just like a small shot. You will fall asleep in literally less than half a minute so you won't even get much of a chance to see anything. The actual operation takes about 5-6 minutes per tooth. And after they are finished, it will usually take you about 10 minutes to wake up. But the whole thing really only feels like a minute.

As long as you use general anesthesia, and take your painkillers on a tight schedule, and follow your doctor's instructions on post-operative care, you will be fine. I never had any real pain with the surgery, and had almost no swelling. So, don't worry about it. Your being scared is actually the hardest part of the procedure. That's what will make you most uncomfortable. But trust me, once you get into that chair and they put you on the IV, you won't even get a chance to worry about it. You will fall asleep and a minute later, you're done and out of there. Really.

    Good luck.

  5. You shouldn't feel anything because they will give you a shot to numb the area.  The only thing I would be concerned with is if they're doing them all at once.  You may be uncomfortable after that.

Your dentist may or may not prescribe pain medication.  I know mine told me to take over the counter meds to begin with.  They did mine two at a time (right side/left side) that way I could still be comfortable to eat on one side.

Depending on your teeth's roots, you could have some difficulty.  I had at least one that was a difficult pull and a "dry socket", but I recovered in a few days and didn't need anything more than tylenol and advil.  They will do x-rays to see how the roots are so they will know how easy or complicated the pulls will be.

Don't be too anxious because that will make it worse on your nerves.  The most pain I encountered was the shot at the beginning.

If you think you're going to be too anxious, you could discuss with your dentist and your regular doctor about prescribing you a low dose of valium to calm your nerves before you have them pulled, but you wil have to have someone else drive you if you choose this option.

  6. If your teeth are impacted (under the gum tissue) , they must be removed by a specialist, an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon.  Intravenous sedation is available at those offices.  Recovery time is a minimum  of three days at home, so plan this surgery for a time when you can rest.
