I'm gettting weird beeping noises from incoming calls on my home phone, help?

For the last hour I've received about three calls on my home phone, each time I've picked it up and there's been no answer except for a beeping noise that goes off every 2 - 3 seconds. I've stayed on the line for almost a minute to see if the beeping will stop, if there's an ad after it, etc., but it's just the beeping going over and over until I turn off the phone. I've tried *69, but the machine tells me that even though *69 is working, it can't redial the number. Does anyone know what's going on?

When was the last time you changed your battery on your home phone? Because this has happened to mine as well and the beeping just keeps on going unless you charge it. So try looking for a new battery.

I would call the telephone company and report this. Have them come and check the lines and everything to make sure that this doesn't continue to happen. It must be annoying.  Hopefully they are able to fix it for you.

phone is tapped? I'd call the phone company and ask them.
