I know you need some, but I'm wondering about the malaria vaccine, I've heard it's not absolutly necessary and the side effects can be horrible. Thanks

  1. Yes - was there last year.  It also depends on which part of India you go to on what types of vaccines you need.

Get them at the Health department - they're cheaper!!

You can go to a local vaccination "business" and get the info on which vaccines to get, but they'll charge you at least twice as much.  Hepatitis, Malaria, Yellow Fever, there's more, but can't remember them all.  There's a new mosquito virus too for Asia (Dungee??) - again, depends on where you're going.  There's also a series of shots, so give yourself the required time to get all the series of shots in before you leave.

If you can, get a driver while you're there!!  The shopping in the markets is amazing!!  AND, don't brush your teeth in the water and go easy on the foods cooked outside of any 3* hotel or below. You'll need a diarrhea kit.

  2. Probably malaria(In summer and monsoon season only)  and hepatitis for sure. Just never drink water off the tap. Always buy mineral and eat in a good restaurant. Never eat street food from the streets..........unless sold in a restaurant.

Some user suggested take toilet paper. You get good quality these days. I moved back from the U.S and can tell you they had rough quality long ago, but now a brand called "Paseo" makes it as soft as charmin or bounty. LOL ! Also hand sanitiser may be a good idea to carry all the time, i do. But they are freely available every where.

India has changed helluva lot in 5 years since i way away. Some one thats been there 10 years will give you dated info.

  3. Best is to check with the advisory in your country. Each time it changes.

Malaria is in some places; so it depends upon places you visit.

Hepatitis and water/food borne diseases need to be taken care of.

  4. Just stay away from the muslim minority (just in case you get caught in a blast) otherwise u will be fine.....

  5. You have to take malaria tablets and a hepatitis A shot. Tell your doctor this. Have fun in India. I go there every year.

  6. NO NO NO do not do anything for malaria unless you are going in the summer and you will be in the jungle. the risks of the malaria drugs are not worth it.

bring a mosquito net (although many places have them), bring repellent, bring long sleeve shirts and long pants and socks, but i would not take the malaria pill.

it's good to get the usual set of boosters: dpt, mmr, tetanus. i would get hep2, it can't hurt, and maybe japanese encephalitis. but that's about all.

  7. The answer is yes. You can go to the US embassy website for additional info but you really ought to not go. India is like, Ecuador X 10 times worse.

  8. I went 10 years ago and took malari prevention tablets once a week (not cheap).  I also got a yellow fever vaccine (is that malaria).  I got everything else vaccine wise that I could and I would encourage you to do the same if possible as India while wonderful, is very dirty.  Also, bring toilet paper with you and immodium.  You'll need it.  Indian toilet paper is  rough  and expensive comaritively.  Also no matter how careful you are you will get the runs on your trip.  Take antibacterial hand sanitizer with you if you can.

  9. You need one, absolutely. I have seen that somebody had written for you addresses, so happy...

    And...just one thing... I know it's not painful! :-)
