So I'm going to study abroad in new zealand this coming fall. I plan on attending Victoria university in wellington and I was wondering, does anyone have any ideas about what I should do (activity wise) while I'm there?

Also, what kind of cultural differences are there in New Zealand that are different form the US? I havent been able to find anything on New Zealand culture so far except for information on the Maori people. I know I am an American, but I promise I'm not your typical loud, obnoxious, god-loving wanker.

  1. NZers tend to be a bit more reserved when you first meet them.

btw - enjoy your time at Vic - i did my degree there and loved it. But I am a born and bred wellingtonian!

Activities - get involved with student life - go to the bars, cafes etc that all the other students go to :)

Activities - hmmm cable car (which you will get at least some stage up to Victoria no doubt), go to the national museum 'Te Papa', just get out and enjoy the place.

If you enjoy naturey stuff get involved with perhaps the Wellington Tramping Club. Tramping is what we call hiking. They do a lot of shorter trips as well (or at least they used to).
