I'm going away to college and I want some ideas for a small fish tank. I hate rectangles.?

I plan on only getting a betta fish. I want some unusual ideas. Remember they have to be safe for the fish. Recycling an object would be a plus. Please don't suggest a water bottle, I already thought of it and I don't think the fish will like being jammed into the tiny hole.

Although people do all kinds of strange things with a betta they really do need to be in a proper filtered and heated tank.  5 gallon is an ideal size and a heater that keeps the water temperature at 80F will mean your betta has a long happy life.  If you confine them to a small space with no heat they get very lethargic and usually die within a few months to a year.

Places like walmart sell these 1-2 gallon corner tanks that double as a book end. In college I had mine on top the hutch of my desk and it worked well to hold up a few books. I don't think it was more than like $12 either and it had gravel and a fake plant too.

these tanks are the same but the first is blue(the one i have and hate soooooo much), red, and purple.

# 2 is black

1 and 2 is 5 gal and comes with almost every thing you need (things that it will not come with is a heater, gravel, plant, fish, and air pump but you do not need a air pump for Betta's

Many people take a clear glass vase and put a live plant on top so the roots hang down and put the betta in there, it is very beautiful. However you will need to find out what plants are safe for the bettas, as they will nibble on the roots.

Another thing is to take a wide mouthed wine bottle, or similar, they also make really neat betta aquariums that would be neat looking.

I for one like vases and would find a cool looking vase and put him in there.
