Question:

I'm going back to college. What about my dogs?

In a week, I will be working part-time (10-3 M-F), and going back to school full time (4-10 M-Thurs). This is the first time I've been back in college in 4 years, and I wasn't expecting to ever be able to go back. Anyway, I have two dogs, a 4 year old Lab, and a 1 year old mini Dachshund. I am becoming increasingly concerned about what to do with them during my long days away from home. Currently, my Dachshund is crated while I'm at work 10-3 and he does fine. The Lab just hangs out in the house because he is older and better behaved. But I certainly can't leave them unattended from 10-10 every day. I live with two roommates who will be able to help a bit with letting them out/walking them, but they have proved to be less than dependable in the past, and there will be times they won't be home either. Any suggestions?

  1. Do you know any kids that get out of school around three that could come over for a bit after school and let your dogs out, walk them, and play with them for a bit? That would be my solution. You could maybe pay them a little bit.

Or if not, you could send the dogs to doggie daycare, if there is one in your area and then maybe your roommates could pick them up for you.

  2. Post notice on every bulletin board you can find. One at school may be best bet.  Ask for dog sitter/walker, terms negtotiable.  It is possible that someone would have you do something for them in return for care of your pets. Money is always a possibility also.
