  1. The campfire information posted by FarCry was in regards to National Forest lands in Stanislaus National Forest. While Calaveras Big Trees is in the general area, it is a State Park and governed by a whole different set of rules. Their website does not update regs based on conditions as there is no budget for it. My guess is that campfires are allowed, that's usually the case with well developed campgrounds even during mid-summer drought conditions. Just the same, you'll want to contact them.

A recent out of control campfire and the suggestion on how to extinguish your campfire suggests that fires are still allowed.

  2. Of course you can. You can read the restriction here and it doesn't apply to any but one campground:

"Campfires. Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire, campfire, (including briquette type barbecue), or stove fire is prohibited, except within developed recreation sites. Persons with a valid California Campfire Permit may use a portable stove or lantern that uses gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel. [36 CFR 261.52 (a)]. Additionally, campfires are not permitted in Moore Creek Campground on the Calaveras Ranger District of the Stanislaus National Forest. "

  3. You'll need to contact the forest service or watch for signs at the campground. I'm guessing no, but it's worth checking.
