  1. Best is to plan for the worst. A couple hour trip can turn into an overnighter if you get hurt. Make sure someone at home knows where you plan on going and when you'll be back. Don't forget to "check back in".

GPS, extra batteries, a bit of rope cord, pocket knife (bigger is better), depending on where you go take a firearm, water, water filter in case you run out of water, about 6 MREs, first aid kit, an old school compas, a map of the area,

  2. Moleskin!!!  I know it sounds strange, but they sell it around the foot section of your pharmacy.  It's this brown sticky stuff.  If you get a blister or any rubbing and irritation, you cut it to size and stick it on your foot.  That stuff saved my life when I was hiking in Hawaii.

  3. Depends, How long will you be hiking? On any trip you should bring a first aid kit, plenty of water, a cell phone (encase you get lost) compass, Pocketknife, and a camera, for those Scenic moments =)
