We're staying at Halcyon cove in Antigua. What are some good day trips to do? Are the stories about pick-pocketers true - and how true? I'm 19 - will I be kicked out of the bar in the evening? (UK drinking age is 18 but USA is normally 21...) Is it worth taking my mobile phone as it is EXTORTIONATE!? Should / can I use payphones instead?

Anything else I should know?

Any advice from people who have been there or thereabouts would be awesome thanks :D

  1. hi i went to antugua last year and stayed at hawks bill was a great holiday!! there are many boat trips around the island i went on the navigation one which went all round the island and stopped in a couple of places to swim, they are all quite similar and very good ! you will get your holiday rep telling you to buy your trips from them and not to buy of locals who live on the island and also your resort telling you to buy from them, which was a bit confusing we however did buy our trips of a nice guy called oscar and didnt have any problems and it was cheaper.anyway one to really do is shirley heights which is always on a sunday evening with food and live music this was fab!!

i didnt know much before i went but there is plenty of information from your resort and holiday rep, you will feel looked after and they can give good advice.

have a great time im sure you will!!!

  2. weather very hot  people very nice and friendly money accepted is USdollars hope you enjoy x

  3. I'm summering in Grenada and hear that Antigua is similar but has better shopping.  You should bring a unlocked mobile as it's the norm here and you hardly see any pay phones.  Don't bring a fancy mobile as it's likely to get sand/dirt or if you loose it.  Don't think you'll have any trouble in the bars as long as you don't dress/act your age - they want your money.  It's warm here, so don't bother bringing any large jackets or extra shoes.  Bring lots of swim gear - suits, goggles, sun block - if you like the beach.

And to be safe while you're here - be in a group!  Don't go places alone, especially if you're a female.  Bad things will happen to you.  Rarely are these things reported to the authorities, and when they are, it's even more rare that they are reported to the community/tourists (bad for business).
