  1. first off DO NOT bring candles!  these are a NO NO! (open flame on a ship is bad)

a cruise is really no different than any other vacation except that the food is included.  You need comfy clothes, bathing suits, and nice clothes for dinner.

You are only charged for booze, salon and spa services, and shopping.  You can very easily spend nothing and still have a great time.  I usually bring 100$ per port to do an excursion.

Carnival has fantastic bedding and comfy down pillows.  Leave yours at home and save the room in your luggage.

Tips for everyone but the matrie d are all added onto your room's sign and sail account.  you dont need to bring extra cash for tipping (unless you want to)

  2. Ok Ashley... this is Penny......

    1.  money, we take 100 per port, but we don't buy much.. so if you plan on a lot of shopping 2-300 per port.   at least 250 pp for the casino,

    2.  clothes - 3 swim suits, 4 shorts, 2 pants, 4 sun tops, 2 dress tops, 2 formal gowns, 3 pr shoes, black for dress, sandles for on board, and tennis shoes or sport shoes for ports.

    3.  for him...4 pr shorts, 1 pr jeans, 4 sleeveless shirts, 2 polo shirts, suit, dress shoes, walking shoes, sandles.

    4.  don't forget the night clothes  gowns, pj's, etc.

    5.  cosmetics.  I would take my own shampoo and conditioner because they don't have conditioner and the shampoo will dry your hair out. make up, curling iron, deoderents, etc.

    6.  Put extra cash in envelopes for tiping before you leave 20 in each, with small bills so you can adjust accordingly.   take about 20 in 1$ bills for tipping room service, and bar tenders.

    7.  bring a small container of laundry soap and put fabric softner sheets in all suit cases so you can do laundry mid week.

    8.  a power strip to plug cell phone, camera, laptop, etc in

    9.  a glade flameless candle to add romance and freshen the air in the cabin.

    10.  mesh laundry bags put in closet or if enough room, just somewhere in cabin.

    11.  if you have a special pillow,, bring that.

    12.  if you drink soda (pepsi) bring your own, but get the plastic bottles and place in a suitcase and send with checked luggage.  I usually take 12 pepsi 12oz bottles, and 6 bottles of water to have in the cabin to take meds with, etc. and for port days.

    13.  have fun

    see ya on board.

Ashley, Note that I did say FLAMELESS CANDLE, IT IS A ROOM AIR FRESHNER THAT RUNS ON A BATTERY, AND LOOKS LIKE A FLICKERING CANDLE.

I have to have a special pillow.  due to headaches and all.  i even have to have a bed rest so I can sleep with my head elevated.

if the other poster would have read throughly he would have seen IF on some of the things an the word Flameless.  But he did not see that.

As for the tips, room service is NOT included in the pre paid tips.  and some people prefer to tip anyone who brings them a drink.  but that is your decission. Ít is not a law that you have to tip these people.  it is just a suggestion.

We can discuss on the board anything else you may want to know.  JUST ASK.  all of us on the board, or most of us are seasoned cruisers, and we can give you tips, etc.

  3. Pack as though you are going to a Caribbean island shorts tanks, vbathing suits). However, you also need to have some nice dressier clothes for dinner.  You can't use cash onboard, so you need to have a credit card if possible.  We spend a fair bit of money when we are in ports when we cruise, but it really depends on where you are going and what you want to do once you're there.  For example, in Key West we went parasailing, out for lunch and souvenir shopping.  It cost us about 250.00.  THe next day we went to Cozumel and only spent 40.00 for the day as we took a $6 taxi into town and had a couple drinks looked around and that was it.
