I'm going to Aupair in germany for a year. Is there anything that i really need to know?

Start praticing your German by listening to Berlitz cassettes or CD's from your library. Bring only what you really want to have with you. What is to be scared of? You are going to a place where people are, they have cars, planes, trains. hospitals, resturants and have a better standard of living than you, (plus alot more history). If something happens they call the polize just like you do here. Just breathe deep. Relax and take it one step at a time. Before you know it you will be there, have done your time and either you willl like it enought to stay or come back because you're a homie.
