  1. Must-see places... The Capitol Building and the LJB Presidential Library (the only free Presidential Library btw). There are other things to see, but it depends on what you're into.

Best restaurants? Well I wouldn't call it one of the best restaurants but it's certainly a must-see for me since I went... The County Line on the Lake. It's a great BBQ place! On the lake (which really looked like a river to me)... You can feed the turtles. I would go right before sunset...  http://countyline.com/viewphoto.asp?id=3...

I also heard Texas Land & Cattle has great steaks..

I went to The Oasis.. the wait is unbearably long and like the previous poster said... the service and food are disappointing.

  2. Hula Hut on Lake Austin, and Carlos-n-Charlies on Lake Travis- both tons of fun by boat or by car!

Try to make it to see some live music- check out the Austin Chronicle for things going on and bands playing around Austin.

If you are looking to party- there is the Warehouse District on 4th Street, and then of course, the ever famous, 6th Street. Both fludded with bars and clubs of all types!

  3. Salt l**k BBQ.

  4. Rudy's BBQ it is the best look it up

  5. Must see places - The capitol of course, even if you don't tour the inside, the grounds are pretty. The bats on Congress bridge are fun to see. Mt. Bonnell overlooks the lake and some beautiful homes. I love to go there. Shopping on South Congress is fun. 6th street if you want to party. 4th street (warehouse district) if you prefer more of an upscale scene which I generally prefer.

Restaurants and bars - Cedar Street bar on 4th, Kerbey Lane, Hula Hut, PF Changs, Eddie V's, Huts, Moonshine on 3rd, the bar at the Hilton downtown is nice and lowkey, Stubbs BBQ, Iron Cactus on 6th, The Mohawk for live music and drinks.

    Enjoy your stay.

  6. The bats that live under the Congress Avenue bridge are pretty amazing. Seeing over 1 million bats fly out at dusk is very impressive, but August is the best time to see them.

Lake Travis is beautiful. There's a restaurant, call the Oasis on the Lake, that has incredible views. The food however is mediocre and very overpriced. A drink or cup of coffee is more appropriate.

The Bob Bullock Musuem has an excellent iMax Theater and is a fun place to visit. It's right near the State Capital which has interesting, free tours.

Downtown in the Warehouse District are many world-class restaurants. Sullivan's in particular is fantastic. A little further South on Congress is Vespaio's which is excellent too. Uchi, on Lamar, South of Barton Springs is one of the best Japanese Restaurants you'll ever have the pleasure to eat at.
