Someone said we must read and....STUDY. (Eeeeesh, that word makes me cringe.)

Suggestions for light reading, poetry guidelines, etc.

The light bulb says I should post this in Sports: Rugby.

Aaaaand I think they fired the giant eraser!

  1. "The Glass Castle"

Wonderful book. I never get tired of reading it :)

  2. I like reading the magazines. Like People..

  3. Here are two that are really good:

The Discovery of Poetry: A Field Guide to Reading and Writing Poems by Frances Mayes

    and

The Wild Iris by Louise Gluck

  4. I really liked The Black Veil by Rick Moody. It is a very good contemporary novel, but quite depressing... It was written after Nathaniel Hawthorne's short story The Minister's Black Veil.

Poetry: I would recommend a volume (something like Selected Poems) by either Dylan Thomas or W. B. Yeats.

You are lucky. I love bookstores and bookshops.

  6. Browse the Poetry section. Find an anthoogy or two. Look through them and the Table of Contents. Sit down while you are doing so. Plan to spend at least an hour there before making a choice.

Studying can be fun if you do it at your own pace.

  7. I like Dondi`s idea!

Sorry, I can`t recommend a poetry book, but I could recommend you something else if you don`t mind.

I love natural remedies; homopatetic remedies. Barnes & Nobles has a good selection for that. I had an Alternative medicince book from there, but it`s been so long I don`t remember the authors name. lol

Ok so I suggested a topic, not a book.

Look on the bright side I am concened for your good health!

Have great fun at Barnes & Nobles; I imagine the feeling is like that of a kid in a candy store!

  8. Well, I don't have any suggestions on books that help teach you about poetry. Maybe there is Poetry for Dummies or something. However, if I were to pick up a book of poems I would get something by Robert Frost.

  9. The History Of The World In 10 1/2 Chapters by Julian Barnes

Appetite For Profit by Michele Simon

  10. My humble suggestion:

Go to the library instead, read the books and decide if you want one for your own, then go to B&N.  Otherwise you may wind up spending $$$$ and getting something you'll never pick up again.  I am biding my time this morning waiting for my library to open in 2 more hours, and then I intend to ramble through there poetry section a bit more.

  11. Pablo Neruda - the first poetry I read which didn't rhyme and I didn't mind (I am afflicted with terminal rhymitis)

A wonderful book which made me laugh but also taught me heaps was

Stephen Fry's The Ode Less Travelled.

Just for a read - The Good Granny Guide by Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall (mother of Hugh of River Cottage Fame....if that got to America) which is full of wonderful hints....for the day Tyler and partner come home and say 'Mum, We've got something to tell you'

  12. On the Blue Shore of Silence: Poems of the Sea (Pablo Neruda)

  13. I would suggest some Rudyard Kipling, or Robert Louis Stevenson.

The doormouse said... feed your head!

  14. Bring a small pad of paper and a pen to B&N.  When you are finished browsing write down the author, title, publisher, ISBN and  price of the books that interest you.

When you get home check prices against amazon and B&N online. I'll bet you'll get a better price.

Best/Worst case scenario:  you'll have to go back to the store  and have the chance to revisit your choices!

  15. Sorry I can't help you out here Reenie.  When I go to B & N I head stright to the Birds Books and then to the Gardening Section.  But I read a different kind of book than the others in this section because other than my birds and gardening my next favorite would be anything by Beverly Lewis.

  16. Self Help by Lorrie Moore. It's a collection of short stories, not really a self help book.

  17. Growth of the Soil- Knut Hamsun

Wait Until Spring, Bandini- John Fante

  18. A favorite place, B&N, Closest is 30 miles away, I am thankful libarby

is 5 minutes away. Enjoy your day, no suggestions, my list is too

    long, to add to yours.

  19. "The Revolution" by Ron Paul is a short, informative, and enlightening read.
