Im Going to brighton next year, Im from the Philippines and I will be graduating on October (BS Psychology). I am a British citizen but have lived here almost all my life! Im 21 now and it's time to face the real world and work!! Arggg!! I am planning to work in brighton because my brother lives there but I'm also planning to just rent a flat.. any suggestions where I can get a cheap but deasent place to stay?? I also need to find a job as soon as I can but I'm afraid that I may have a hard time adjusting to their culture, climate, people and the accent I unfortunately lost that when I grew up here but I still know how to speak English. Do you think I can find a job that's connected to my course or will it be a good idea to start with small jobs? How can I raise enough money to support myself in a country that has a very high cost of living??? please help me with this..

  1. Is your brother g*y? Brighton is the g*y capital of Britain.

  2. To be honest with you, your chances of finding a paid job straight off the bat here in the UK that's connected to your course are very slim. There are scores of people with degrees from abroad who are working in the UK doing low-paid menial jobs.

The cost of living is high, yes, but if you have no dependants, you'll manage, even if you're on a low wage. It's just a case of not paying over the odds for a rented roof over your head and living within your means.

If you could combine having a job to pay your bills and doing voluntary work to get relevance experience in your chosen field, that'd be your best option, I'd say, in terms of furthering your career prospects. Whether you'll be able to find the right voluntary work in Brighton, I don't know.

  3. Are you looking to share a flat/house or are you wanting to go it alone??

Most decent 1 bed flats are up for rent around £600p/m, you can get better deals if sharing and one good place to have a look is Gumtree website and also the Argus newspaper where people place ad's.

I would start by placing your CV onto some websites like Monster, you decide what type of work you want and then daily you'll receive emails of jobs on offer through other agencies. You then click on the job you want to apply for and your CV goes through to the agency and then they will contact you if they think your right for the job and set up an interview for you.

Good luck and i bet your brother will assist in flat/house hunting for you.

  4. See answer gave to Vince. Its a g*y town and attracts so many because of its friendliness, openess, history, arts, but its easy transport routes to London raises prices incredibly.  So much more expensive than other resorts nearby. So, you're in tough competition and will have to share, consider other towns if you can. Wish you luck though.

  5. i live in shoreham by sea a town a couple of miles west of brighton the cost of living is unforntuantley quite high i dont think u will be able to get a job related to your course although the qualifacation should make you stand out in employers eyes and for the LAST GODDAM TIME brighton is not the g*y capital of britian kemp town a small discrit on the very outskirts of brighton is the community that has got the entire brighton area the reputaion o f being the g*y capital of britain its not
