  1. For sure! =]

  2. YES YES YES!   I went to Budapest with some friends a few years back.  There are plenty of charming, local hotels, and if you can stay at one, that's great.  But there are also places that remind one of a bad cold war movie.  We had booked one place before we went, it looked ok, etc.  When we got there, after walking through what can only be described as a ghetto, it was a nasty hotel lobby, straight from the 70s, complete with fat man in a wife-beater watching a black and white TV with coat hanger antenna.  If you can't be sure about the hotel, go with a reputable international brand.  Plus, it's probably in a better location closer to the good nightlife.  Thankfully, we hadn't pre-paid (this was before prolific online booking), so we left for something much better in the heart of the city.

OH, and DO NOT go with the pretty girls who come talk to you and then casually ask you to go with them to some other bar down the street...when you get there, they ask you to buy them a drink...guess what, it's $100+ for that drink and if you don't pay, you'll be escorted by 3 very big, russian-mafia looking men to the nearest ATM.  It's a scam.  *ahem* I heard that could happen.

Edit:  haha, my story got me thinking, so I looked up Budapest on Tripadvisor.  Here's what they had to say:  "be wary of strange women who approach you out of the blue.  These encounters will likely end in theft or a forcible trip to the ATM machine, sandwiched between two very large men."

  3. Budapest is not in Germany and not anywhere near the Baltic Sea.

  4. Why is this question filed under Germany? Budapest is not in Germany.

  5. Last geograhic remark: Budapest is the capital of Hungary!

  6. yep.. stay with any American or International chain.. at least they speak good English!

  7. Extra $30 compared to what? I've never been to Budapest, but I thought it might help if you specified what choices you are considering.
