Which brand should I go for?

What should I want/look for in a laptop?

What's the difference between a laptop and a notebook? If I'm going to spend so much money should I just go for a Laptop? or should I save me money and get the notebook because it's all I will need?

I know nothing about computers/laptops/notebooks and I know it's not a good idea to go shopping like this because they'll rip you off. If I could get some help for this it be Much Appreciated! ty vm.

  1. First of all, I know of no difference between a laptop and a notebook. They both simply describe mobile computers, easy enough to pack up and take with you when you need to travel and/or move.

If you're looking for something in a lower price range, you really can't go bad with a Dell laptop. Other noteworthy brands include Acer, Toshiba, and Lenovo. The Lenovo notebooks are a bit more targeted towards business type users, so lets just stick with Dell, Acer, and Toshiba.

Most notebook computers will come with Windows Vista nowadays, and you will want a MINIMUM of 2 GB of Memory. This will allow you to keep multiple programs open, without noticing any major performance decrease.

As for a Hard Drive, anything over 150GB is quite sufficient for the average user. I don't think Dell even offers anything under 160GB. 150 GB is equal to 30,000 MP3 music files (at an average of 5MB per MP3)

Here is a great Dell Laptop that would suit your needs perfectly:

    Dell Inspiron 1525

Acer laptop that would work as well:

    Acer Extensa EX5620-6266

    Toshiba:

    Toshiba Satellite L305-S5884

All in all  -  if I were to buy a laptop TODAY, I would go with the Dell. I hope that helps :)
