I'm going to Cuba(I live in Canada not the US,so I am allowed to go to Cuba)?

Dress for tropical weather. If you're going between now and November, you probably won't need a light jacket or sweater because it'll be warm at night...so take clothing made of cool fabrics and materials, such as cotton. Cuba usually has high temperatures with considerable humidity, given where it's located.

Aside from your beach wear, bring light casual clothing....jeans and t-shirt for guys (you might look out of place wearing tourist shorts in town...you won't to look so much like a tourist), baseball caps, etc.

Bring something dressy-casual for nice evenings.

For the girls, same principle of light and cool, dressy and casual. Ladies will always want to bring some dressy outfits, but nothing over the top, but evening style for tropical nights. Really nice way to end a beautiful hot day in the sun.

Also, check the link below for Spanish phrases. I'd love to list spanish phrases but it will be really long. The phrases will help you learn the basics and communicate (even though most Cubans speak English)...when you try to speak Spanish they'll love you even more ;-)

Wherever you see an accent mark on top of a letter, then know you need to put more emphasis on that syllable...otherwise, in Spanish, emphasis is always stressed on the second last syllable (unless otherwise indicated by the accent mark).

As a Canadian you can go to Cuba and like any other foregner, you can go in without getting your passport stamped. They offer this alternative service of giving you a Safe-Conduct due to many Latin Americans don't want any proof of being there in order to maintane their VISA to go to United States.

Take light clothes like if you're going to Miami.

There are 3 tipes of tourisms going on in Cuba, specialy in Varadero and La Habana.

1.- Normal tourism as any other place in the world, I bet this is for the mayority. Go to a Hotel and get your tour around the place with official guide etc.

2.- s*x and Prostitution. Some people want to experience s*x in Cuba (bachelors soon to become husbands, etc.) In this case "They" recomend to take extra clothing (or other interesting articles like perfumes) to give away as presents for the more than greatfull locals. Don't get me wrong, I don't mean this in a disrespectfull way, but is as true as people going to Brasil for the same porpuse.

3.- What I think is the best way to visit Cuba. To stay at a local person's house (they speak english and are great tour guides). You will really know what people inside cuba think and feel. They will give you astonishing answers like: "Only millionaires can rent a car"  (when you tell them you want to rent one). Your money will go to people that deserve it and you'll make a life long friend in the island. The other 2 options is just a screen play. I know this because my wife is a teacher in an Italian school in Lima and every year new young teachers come from Italy and many have gone to Cuba this way, last year a very nice couple went there this way.

It is a hot climate so plenty of beach wear and loose natural fibres :o)

You will have a fab time - yes canadians are allowed to travel there - plenty of them in the hotel I was staying in!!

If you hold a Canadian passport you can go without a problem.  Its a very interesting country...

Clothes depend on what time of year and where you go and as for learning spanish look into something like the Rosetta Stone kits, they sell them on Ebay and at Borders.
