I'm going to Europe in about a month and I'm so scared of flying since 9/11. Any reassuring words?

It's a graduation gift from my aunt and she's flying over there with me, but I'll be coming back alone. I'm so afraid that something will happen. What can I do to be confident that I'll be safe in that plane?

  1. do yogic breathing and relax, then, listen to music, and read a magazine. it will go fine. i have traveled soooo many times before and after 9/11 and nothing ever happened to me. try to get one at night so you could sleep. you will get tired anyway and get sleepy.

  2. If any thing, flying international is more secure than flying domestic.  There are a lot more checks in place on international flights.  Just enjoy your trip.

  3. you will be fine, i had never flown anywhere until last year when i took my first flight to australia from the uk alone, now i want to fly everywhere!! just think of how many people have flown since 9/11, your safer on an airplane than you are walking down the road! i hop you have a fantastic time in europe x

  4. What message would we, civilians of the world in general, be sending to those terrorists if we stop living our lives in fear of their inhumane actions?

If anything, I would rather proudly fly than to live my life in fear on the ground.

  5. Theres nothing to be worried about, if you worry, you let the terrorists win.

  6. Just think rational and remember that this fear is just in your head, but that the chances that something will happen during that flight are much smaller than the chances that something will happen during your trip or maybe even when you stay at home. The security checks from flights from the USA to Europa are very high. So during your flight focus on your trip ahead, listen to music and enjoy, because if you start living in fear you can not enjoy life or go anywhere on holiday anymore.

  7. Whenever I get afraid, I keep telling myself this too, shall pass and it usually does!

  8. I'm studying to be a pilot for Delta and I can assure you flying is safer than ever let me go over some of the safety measures that are in place.

The cockpit door is now closed after the cabin door is locked and remains locked until the ramp is pulled up to the plane. No one in the cabin has any access to the cockpit once that door is closed. Its made of a titanium / tungsten alloy that’s impossible to get through unless the captain opens it on the other side. So don't worry about the plane being taken over.

Two on almost any international flight an undercover flight marshal is on board the plane. My uncle works as a flight marshal (Where I got my interest in flight from) and trust me no one wants to mess with him. Flight marshals are armed with low velocity ammo with will not penetrate the airplanes skin if hit by a bullet so no need to worry about rapid depressurization, but no worries its got plenty of power to kill the bad guys.

Three. The pilot has a switch that allows the plane to slowly decompress itself. Lowering oxygen levels the captain and co-pilot would on oxygen masks and lower the oxygen levels in the cabin. It wouldn't kill you, but it'd put every one in the cabin to sleep, including the bad guys. So the pilot could land the plane and no one would get hurt in the cabin.

Also the plane is equiped with a transponder. The captain will set the transponder to a specific code in the case of a terrorist take over its set to 7500. This sets off an alarm at ATC (Air Traffic Control) and allows them to moinitor the situation.

So see no worries. There isn't any way in the world September 11th's gonna happen again.

  9. international flights are sooo much safer than national. Europe's security checks are so much more thorough

  10. don't worry!! i've traveled by plane for about 20 times since then and of course nothing happened. the security measures are really high now and basically NOTHING  can happen. honestly. enjoy europe;)

  11. Flyng is the safest form of transportation. I've flown dozens of times since 9/11.
