I'm planning on a trip to HCMC with my friend. I'm wondering if it's OK to go to a bar without guys. Is it dangerous ?and, should I bring Vietnamese money ? Can I use US bills there ? Any information about HCMC will be appreciated. Thank you !

  1. It's safe in Ho Chi Minh city and Ha Noi when you don't act as tourist. Your show off things would draw attention. Use your belly purse don't stay out alone too late after 11 pm and use taxi then.

Security is high but you don't want troubles, so do not let it happen to you.

  2. the only bars you will find are in touist areas and they are as safe as you are causious. .dont act a fool dont be to trusting ESSPECALLY of people you think you can trust.. thats when you get "sandbagged" i've  been amazed at how many young single girls trave around viet nam alone.. yes you can use us dollares  but it isy to convert your money and easy to deal with "vn dong " . in sai gon start out in the back packer arera[ pham ngu lau and de tham street , you will be ok in the bars there and you will feel right at home in 1-2 days .. them move on to nha trang... you will love it there .. real easy to get around.

  3. you can use US bills in very few places you will most likely need to change it to vietnameese money. the beach will be very crowded from 5 to 7 at night because then it is not too hot and the water is nice. Its very sandy. I would take someone with you if you are a tourist there just to be safe. that is what my family said when I went there. I got back a month ago. It is really warm there. like always warm usually in upper 90 to 110. if you stay in a hotel there you should have ac. have fun!!!!

  4. if u r in vietnam, then u should use vietnamese dong....waste of time.....

no, it's not safe a girls to be around at night if they don't live there...

  5. Yes its extremely dangerous in the evening.....

    Its trafficking nation there!

  6. Vietnam is fairly safe, as a girl though, I would recommend going in groups.

I always prefer backpacks over purses, some will be tempted and I have seen people snatch those right off your arms.

Don't flaunt your things, wear minimal jewelery, don't act like you are scared, then you should be just fine.

And yes, you DO need Vietnamese money. You CAN get them converted in store, but it is so much easier to just get all that you need converted at the bank right when you get to HCMC, bringing US money also draws excessive attention you don't need.

HCMC is my hometown, and I totally love it, it may not be advanced as the US but it's beautiful in it's own way.

    Goodluck and have fun!

  7. No it isn't I was there not long ago and I though it was the most interesting and the most safest place to walk around, even at night.

    Lovely place.

  9. just dont wear a Communist Star

  10. Ignore MOP's answer, He must be speaking of another country.

It is extremely safe in Vietnam. The violent crime rate is almost non-existant. In fact, you will see young children walking around in complete safety. The Viet justice system is very, very harsh on criminals, especially those who harm women and children.

As for the money, use Viet currency. I don't think that you want to be doing monetary conversion factors in your head after a few drinks. Any bank or jewelery store will convert your bills. btw, bring clean crisp bills, the Viets don't like old or worn money and sometimes won't take them.

    Enjoy your trip.
