  1. it is hotter than Phoenix.  You'll understand almost nothing about the locals, which won't matter because you won't see very many anyway.

A buddy just came back from a year in Iraq -- he says that morale is much stronger than most Americans think and he's a groundpounder.

  2. First off, thank you for being so brave and volunteering! Why did you do this, though? Aren't Air Force deployments 6 months or less? Well, Iraq, I hear, is not as bad now as it used to be, and from what I understand, being in the Air Force, you won't exactly be front and center where the danger is. God Bless you, and thanks again for helping defend our nation!!!

  3. Good luck buddy, take lots of sun lotion, and aim straight. Gods speed.

  4. welcome aboard maybe i'll see you in the sandbox one day....good luck.

  5. good luck

  6. If u are going to BIAP or any other airfield you should be fine. just have the following: Gerber, Boots (Oakley, Blackhawk, Converse, etc) Good shades, Combat Sling (easier to carry weapon), Buttstock Magazine pouch (instead of wearing it in your pocket), Knife, Laptop, MP3 player (digital memory, not hardrive) , gator neck, as far as a t.v. you can probably get a deal with people leaving, Gloves (any type of shooting gloves), phone (quadband, get a sim card while you are there). Anything else you can order online or buy at the PX there. You should be good

  7. Well first off good luck. Second being that your in the air force it shouldn't be that bad, you guys aren't exactly front line combatants. Its hot in the summer and rains pretty good in he winter, you'll spend most if not all of your time on a F.O.B. so I suggest using the extra time you'll have without civilian world distractions to better yourself spend lots of time in the gym and stuff like that. I guess if you don't have to go outside the wire and fight the worst part about being in Iraq is being away from your family, the lack of women, the lack beer and liquor, and being away from american comforts. I'm an Infantryman so I have a few more worries when deployed and face more stressful situations but that was a personal choice of mine and am proud as h**l of it

  8. I hear it has gotten better out there. Good luck and God bless your heart.

  9. I just happened to be passing & saw your Q, I don't know the Ans I just wanted to say "THANK YOU", & send you a big hug for your service "God Bless all our Troops", Your a CR. to your Country.
