Question:

I'm going to Italy for a week. Where should I go besides Rome?

I was going to Rome for the week, but my brother said I should see Florence and Milan too. Then someone else said that I shouldn't miss Venice. I am now thinking of 2 days in Rome, 2 days in Florence, then 2 more days in Rome. I would like to at least do my last day in Rome so it would be less hectic getting the plane back to Los Angeles. Any suggestions, anyone? (I'm travelling alone so don't want to go 2 weeks.)

  1. You should see Florence, Pisa, Siena  and some more but you won't have enough time to do so. 1 week isn't even enough for Rome. Florence ist wonderful as well - all the old buildings - one doesn't know at all where to look at first.  One could stay there for a year and wouldn't have seen everything...

    Have a nice trip!

  2. definitely check out venice it's extremely beautiful ..

you should go to venice first than to florence if you can,and end your trip in rome. it would be a nice well rounded trip if it's ended in rome.

have fun and take a lot of pictures!!!

  3. There is plenty to see in Rome and Florence to keep you occupied. Two days in Florence and four in Rome is a pretty good mix. You should be able to catch most of the highlights and even take a day trip out of Rome to Pompeii, Tivoli, Orvieto, Ostia Antica or whatever interests you. Venice is definitely worth a visit, but you don't want to spend all your time here on trains. The train from Rome to Florence is an easy trip.

If you want to go to the Uffizi or Accademia in Florence and/or the Vatican Museums or Colosseum in Rome, it is best to make a reservation so you won't spend a lot of time waiting in lines.

Milan does have things worth seeing, but it wouldn't be in my list of top 5 places to visit fo a first trip to Italy.

  4. Got to be honest, not sure how far out of your way this would be but could definitely recommend Sicily - fantastic place with lots to see, including the ever bubbling Mt Etna.  The views from up there are some of the best I've ever seen.

  5. 4 days in Rome and 2 to Florence are perfect.

Venice is beautiful, but it's 6 hours of train ride from Rome, i don't think it's worth it if you stay only one week!

When you go to Florence, you can go visit Pisa and the leaning tower: it's only 30 minute of train from Florence.

There is a lot to see in Rome, so you can be busy the whole 4 days there, but if you have time, you can catch the train and go for the day to Pompei (a little over 2 hours of train), which is very fascinating!!

  6. Hope you don't care if I give you the link to my blog, but it can partially answer your question:

It's new, so posts are just a few, but if you don't come to Italy tomorrow maybe I'll have the time to give you more useful hints in the next weeks/months...

Just let me know what you think of it, thnx!!!! :)
