  1. Everything in Italy is fairly close by everything else -- it's a pretty small country.

Yes, you should go to Rome, because so much of our western culture was influenced by Rome.  There is so much to see and do there.

  6. Florence (capital of the region of Tuscany) to Rome is near 1 hour and 40 minutes; about if Rome is worth visiting... well, it's seems like asking if the water is wet! :-)

Rome is one of the most visited city in the world (we're talking about millions visitors every year) for both fun and cultural activities.

  7. Rome is one of the top places to visit in the entire world, so yes, it's worth visiting.

  8. Let's say for the sake of argument you are going to Florence in Tuscany.  It is around a 3 hour drive from Florence to Rome.

Rome is definitely worth visiting as it is imo one of the most amazing cities on earth, it just depends how much time you have.  It would be a crime to spend only a day there.
