  1. It is relatively safe. However, the maras, or ms13 as they call themselves, are very much present all throughout the country. Although you will be safer in La Ceiba than in San Salvador, El Salvador, you should keep away from those type of people, the only reason there are Maras in Honduras is because a lot of immigrants from El Salvador went there and recruited the poor street kids and people who pretty much didn't have much, the Salvadorans thought they were good targets to recruit because then they would see the gang life of Salvadorans as their only "family". Do the usual to keep yourself from being a target: Don't flash around expensive things (cell phone, laptop, jewelery, ect) and you should be fine.

Other than that Honduras is a beautiful country with much to do and see. Also, the Honduran people are extremely friendly and loving, i know because many of my friend are from and/or live in Honduras.

  2. yes is it!!

Just be careful of where you are going and don't show off your expensive things as you might be robed or be target as rich.

Hopefully you are going with a group(you feel safer)

    Have fun!

  3. Yes it is.

There is so much to do in the area of La Ceiba, white water rafting (What a blast!), hiking the Pico Bonito Forest Preserve with a swim in a natural pool by a waterfall and wonderful lunch, a trip to the women's sewing coop via a basket across the river on a cable (How much fun!). Trips on the local bus, one to Sambo Creek, the Garifuna Village. A visit to the SOS children's orphanage village, 122 smiling loving kids. They were very happy to see us and thanked us for the supplies, medicines and clothing. That was a great blessing. We spent a lot of time in the central downtown after shopping at the local market, met a lot of loving, kind and helpful Hondurans. They welcomed us. I never felt UNSAFE or uncomfortable.

  4. It is safe in Honduras and it is also safe in El Salvador, dont listen to ignorant people who say it's not safe in Salvador.

  5. Like everyone else said, don't flaunt money and you will be just fine.  It's really a beautiful place.  Been there and loved it.
