  1. You ALWAYS gamble with the mindset that you can (and most likely will)  lose, with money you can afford to lose - if you really need to win money  than the best advice is to NOT gamble.

  2. If you need to win money then why are you going in the first place? If you feel pressure to win money, most times, you will not. I hope you are going to Vegas with fun money and if you lose it, then no big deal. If you win, then it is a bonus.

I would avoid slots altogether. They are one of the worst investments in a casino. Vegas was built on slots! Even if an advertisment above a row of slots says 98% payback, most times in the very fine print, it says UP TO 98% payback. This means possibly only one of the machines in that row will payback 98%. Unless you get real lucky, slots are a big waste of time and money.

You did mention blackjack and that's the game you should stick to! First, go online and print out a Blackjack Strategy Card. You can find this if you search for it here on Yahoo. Print it up and use it for every bet. It will tell you the optimal times to hit, stand, double-down and split. Next, play in some of the smaller casinos downtown such as the Golden Nugget and Binion's. There you will find lower limit tables around $3. Some downtown casinos have $1 minimum blackjack! This will give you a chance to use the strategy card and get a feel for the game without risking a lot of money. After you feel comfortable, you can bet more money per hand and bet bigger when you get on hot streaks! That is the key to blackjack...betting big when you are running great and betting the minimum when you are losing a few hands in a row.

Good luck out there and have a good time!!

  3. If you 'really need to win' then you shouldn't be playing.

Gambling is for people who have a bunch of money to waste, and it will not affect them if they lose it all.  If you are going to Vegas hoping to win money, you are just another one of the suckers that go there all the time and squander all their bankroll.

My recommendation, if you really want to play, is to take a look around the various casinos for a slots area that has a guaranteed payout.  Now this guarantee is not all that important, because for anything exciting to happen you still need to get lucky in the short term.  But if an area of slots advertises (for example) a 98% payout, it means the house edge is just 2%.  That's better than most table games.  Because even those with odds that give you better than a 2% disadvantage, are only that good if you know how to play them.  For example if you play Blackjack, the house edge varies depending on the house rules.  But if you don't play what is mathematically the best strategy the house edge goes way up, and your chance of winning goes way down.

If you find a section of the casino with a guaranteed slot payout, you know going in what the house edge is, and really the great thing about slots is that no matter how dumb you play, you can still win.  In fact the really cool thing is that you can win a bunch of money if you get lucky.  Not like Blackjack where you can play for ages and make just a few bucks.
