  1. I guess you need to have credit cards. It gives you lots of help in a case of emergency.

http://cards.yoll.net - try this one. I personally use it when traveling abroad.

  2. I strongly suggest you don't go to Maracaibo. It's hot, ugly and dangerous. No where in Venezuela is 100% safe but Caracas and Maracaibo are the worse cities as far as crime goes.

  3. Traveling with a Credit card is usual but not obligatory. It can help you in case of emergency.Using a credit card can also secure a decent exchange rate and is often safer than carrying around a lot of cash. American Express, Visa and Master Card are all widely accepted around the world. Keep in mind, however, that using an ATM/debit card may incur additional bank/commission charges

You dont say where are you from but Im assuming youre from a english speaking country

Passport/Visa Note: Those entering Venezuela on a visa require a passport valid for at least six months. If travel is for touristic purposes, passports valid for two months will be accepted as long as the passport expires after the departure date. Tourist Entry Cards are issued free of charge by air carriers allowing for a stay of up to 90 days. Visitors must have return tickets or tickets for onward travel as well as all documents required for the next destination and sufficient funds
