As in any big city, Lima has some dangerous places like La Victoria, Callao, some parts of downtown Lima, crowded neighborhoods. Try to avoid these places, the rest of the city is safe. My advice is never go alone in the streets, visit only the main sites for tourists, be careful with your bags in restaurants, don't wear jewelry, watch your back before using your camera, avoid crowded places, etc. In summary : common sense.

Maybe if you share your activities with other tourist you will have a nice visit to Lima.
