  1. Take the double deck buses. They have very good itinerary. You can go around Rome at your own pace. Fare is very cheap.

  2. ...yes there are some buses that go...

  3. you can take either the bus or the metro. Metro could be easier as the map is right at the station which indicates clearly what line to take and how many stops away. Other than money for the metro or bus tickets, all you need is just money to get into the Vatican, 12 euro, if I remember correctly, a shaw to cover your shoulders if your blouse does not cover it and skirt or long pants to cover your legs if you are going into St. Peter's Catherdral. And of course, a water bottle as both the Vatican and St. Peter's will take you a whole day. A camera, of course if you want to take pictures.

  4. There are many buses that go to Vatican (Vatican City is inside Rome just in the center)

It depends on where you have yuor hotel

You can take the metro A stop Ottaviano - Saint Peter

From Termini Station number 64. the number 62 from Via Barberini.

You don't need anything of particular with you ( except a document, you know some times police checks becouse of terrorism) .

Obviously on the bus beware of pickpocket. Unfortunately Rome is full of gipsy an illegal immigrants looking for tourist to rob of .

    Have a nice trip

    The weather is still good

  5. You can not visit Vatican City but you can visit Vatican museums and st Peter and Paul Basilica.

  6. We just went in July, and yes there are several types of busses that go to the Vatican and pretty much anywhere else in Rome.  The open double decker busses are pretty neat, and there are several reputable tour companies that offer guided bus tours.  Depending on where you stay, it might even be in walking distance.  The taxis are another option, but a little more costly.  You will have to have your shoulders and knees covered or they do not let you in.  Many people forget that this is a place of worship and they have regualr masses daily in there.  Be prepared to wait in long lines if you get there late, especially if you plan to see the Sistiene Chapel or the Vatican Museums.

I would also carry some type of backpack and a map of the city too.  Most hotels have detailed pocket maps with the major sites of Rome highlighted, and they are fairly easy to follow when walking around.  We walked most of the time because there were several sites within walking distance of each other.  BEWARE of the gypsies.  They will do anything to get your attention and pickpocket you.  They are very good at what they do.  Carry your money in a hidden travel belt or pocket.  Also take your camera and lots of film, because this is a fascinating place to see.

  7. i dont use the buses in Rome but the nearest metro is ottaviano. go one stop further to go to sistine chapel. you have to be covered to the knees and elbows. make sure you go up the cupola. the line is to the right hand side as you look at the face of the church and it is always long, but worth it. half way up you can look down on the inside of the church and when you get to the top you can see the whole of Rome.

  8. You get the Metro to  the nearest stop. It's in the heart of Rome, more or less. Don't wear shorts or a revealing top because the Swiss guards won't let you in.

  9. A great idea to get around Rome is the jump on/off bus tours.  Much like the open bus tours in the states they are in Rome also and go to the Vatican and run late enough that you can see the Vatican lit up at night.  I was there in September and it proved to be a cheap and easy way to get around..I had a 3 day pass and got every dollars worth of it.  Enjoy ur trip!!

And the only thing you need for Vatican is long pants no exposed shoulders and lots of room on your memory card.

  10. Hello,

There are buses and the metro that go to the vatican all day long.  You must dress appropriatly to go inside or you won't be allowed in.  You must cover your knees and your shoulders and can't wear t-shirts with anything offensive on it.  You should try to get to the museum early for the lines will be very long.  If you reserve a tour you will be able to skip the line and go in when your tour starts.  You can go to vatican.va to reserve a tour.  You will be able to take pictures but not in certain rooms.  The tapestry room and also the Sistine Chapel are rooms where photos are not allowed.  If you decide not to do a tour, go around noon and the lines will be shorter.

If you visit St. Peter's basillica you can take pictures anywhere you want.  You might want to take the trip to the top of the dome for the wonderful views of the city.  You can spend as much time as you like in the basillica.  Again, you must dress appropriatly.
