  1. ciao i'm italian.

Visit: Piazza San Marco, Canal Grande in gondola.

    Drink: Spritz is tipical coctail

It's too hot hot and more expensive

    For nightlife got to: http://www.2night.it/v2/venezia/index.ht...

  2. My dear, the whole of Venice is the most romantic place in the world. You should go around and find your own spot, the one that inspires you. If I had to choose though, there are two places: one is outside the so-called "house of Casanova", not because it is the house of Casanova, but it is a beautiful canal with amazing buildings. The gondoliers know it as house of Casanova, that's why I tell you how to explain to them. Afterwards, a place to celebrate with a lovely meal is the restaurant Oliva nera, near the church S. Giorgio dei Greci. Ask around and you'll find it, it is a bit expensive, but it is cute, on a secluded square, and it has great food and great desserts.

  3. A gondala ride they are all over the city I would just stay off of the Grand Canal if possible because sometimes it gets rough with other boats and wakes. They can be costly when I did it a few years ago it was E80 for 30 min but it was romatic and they guy will take pics. They don't sing!!!

  4. Go to the top of the bell tower on San Giorgio Maggior... the island across from Saint Marks. A view as good if not somewhat better from the S. Mark's bell tower and much less crowded.

In the Basilica itself.... are you Catholic? If so, go to mass and ask to get engaged while sharing the ritual handshake of peace.

Take a gondola from Santa Maria del Giglio and not from Saint Marks - the water there is too choppy. From S. del Giglio they'll take you up into the Grand Canal and it's much better and less touristy than from S. Marks.

The Island of San Clemente - "L'isola di San Clemente" where a new hotel opened up several years ago.. and where there is a wonderful restaurant... it's a very romantic place and you can catch a free water taxi from Saint Marks (and a short walk from the Venice Yacht Club)... visit the island and the small church there.

Lunch at the Guggenheim.... go through the galleries, go down on the terrace.... and make your vows.

  5. The Daniele and Gritti Palace hotels both have restaurants right on the canal or on the rooftop overlooking the canal.  Gritti is smaller and quiter at canal level.  Daniele has a beautful rooftop restaurant overlooking the main canal intersection.  I'd let the maitre d know in advance and ask for help re table position and staff awareness.

  6. The suggestion about the area around the House of Casanova is good.

There are lots of outdoor restaurants in secluded spots around Venice. One to consider might be Da Raffaele on the route between Academia and Piazza San Marco. Take a table by the canal; it's on a gondola route.

If you'll still be in Venice on the 14th, you might consider hiring a gondola and watching the fireworks for Il Redentore in the lagoon. There will be lots of boats and people but you'll have privacy in the gondola. The fireworks start at 11 pm and are spectacular - I go most years.

  7. find bacaro that have cichetti (delicious Italian snack/hors d'oeuvres thingys). Just hang out and talk with the barkeep, or shop-owners did it for us. Venice is full of amazing people. I'd recommend Al Bottegon in Dorsoduro and Timon in Cannaregio. Have fun, see the sites, but remember to just "get lost" and wander for some time as well. You'll love it!

FYI - a great place to wander is in Dorsoduro, through Toletta, San Barnaba (of Indiana Jones fame), and Campo Santa Margherita (and of course, any side alley you come across).

Explore this area and also walked along the Zattare in Dorsoduro near La Salute church which has wonderful paintings by Italian masters.

The Rialto bridge and the stores and restaurants in that area are interesting.

Enjoy your visit to the lagoon islands of Murano (famous for glass blowing and creation of lovely glass articles), Burano (known for its lace-making), Torcello (with its 4th century church with lovely paintings and frescoes), and the beach at Lido. <*-*>

  8. Gondola rides are nice but heads up they are expensive. A very nice place is in Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's square) look at this pic link and see

    Have fun and good luck!

  9. Anywhere on the gondola ride that feels right, or in the middle of St. Mark's Square.
