  1. That will be heaps of time to see it as its quite small and you can get around it quite easily, either on foot or using the "bus boats".....

The main area of interest is St Marcos square where there are the pigeons, St Marco's duomo, Doge's palace! I recommend all....but the queues can be quite long!!

There are lots of markets around the place too.

Oh Rialto Bridge is nice as well.

AS I said just walking around is nice, but some of the back streets are VERY narrow, dark and a bit creepy and a map is ESSENTIAL as its like a rabbit warren, but you could probalby find your way out pretty quickly without one.

There are lots of lovely churches scattered around the place that you find on your meanderings.

If you wanted and had time, you can go to the murano glass factory.  I didn;t go as I had not heard about it, but it was supposed to be very good.

I would not bother going on the gondola's.....a rip off and you can see more on the main boats, which can take you around the whole island for great views from every angle.

  2. Dodges Palace.... lunch in Saint Marks's Square. For something different - go to the Guggenheim - great collection of Modern Art, lovely garden and good place to have lunch!

  3. with a day and a half u can do so much.  go to murano or burano for glass.  its famous.  also around st marks theres doge's palace, st mark's (remember no bags allowed), bell tower is great.  even just walking thru the city is amazing.

  4. Hi ,I'm italian if you write me the words in italian I  can try help you

  5. Go up the bell tower on St. Mark's Sq.  Great view.  Take the "bus" (public trans) boat to get around - Not a gondola.  Get lost around the back streets but make sure you have a map of the city to get "unlost."  If you like modern art, visit Peggy Guggenheim's museum.  One and half days should be enough.

I don't know how frugal this trip is, but I read this before going:  http://travel2.nytimes.com/2006/06/07/tr...

    and http://budgettravel.about.com/cs/plannin...

But, if you like hemingway, you must have a Bellini at Harry's Bar. And you absolutely must do the cheesy touristy thing and have at least an Espresso sitting outdoors at St. mark's (5 euro espresso, but very pretty and 5 euro sit down fee, for the music, they say).
