Is there somewhere in the city that is similar to Koh Sarn Road in Thailand? I'm on a tight budget.

  1. hi, try DE THAM street, or PHAM NGU LAO street. its like khao san rd in bangkok. but sai gon got more than that..its pretty near the center too, just 10 mins walk you can go to NGUYEN HUE street or LE LOI street with a nice cafe call CAFE TERRACE ..saigon is best i love it..mail me more if you want more cool place. aw,you better check out a bar call saigon saigon bar on 9th floor of Caravel hotel, you can have lovely cocktail live music and the whole saigon's view

  2. its not my choice and all i can say to you is watch where you go in the city

  4. YES, "pham ngu lau", "de tham", "bui vien" streets.  that district has  many mini hotels w/ clean safe rooms ranging from $7us and up . there are also a number of higher priced hotels in that area. more importantly it is  THE most convienient area for a first time tourist. many travel agencys, many resturants, bars, and easy access to all kinds of shopping. ask any taxi driver to take you to "de tham" street [ pronounced "day tom"]  taxi from the airport; $4-$8us depending on how good you bargan.. there is also a city bus to "pham ngu lau" near de tham... much cheaper.

  5. Not sure of the spelling but its pronounced like this

"Fam yu lao "  its like a back packing area,(about 20usd a night for a decent room)

But be warned you get swarmed by book sellers , beggars and everyone else.

I would rather pay a Little more and have some peace stay some where else (lan lan 2 is a nice hotel a little further out).

Don't take the motorbike taxis or girls as they will try and empty your wallet.

Try and go to Cu chi tunnels as well , its good to see.

There are two lots so try and see them both.

They operate in USD and Vietnamese Dong , very confusing but you will find it benefits to carry both.

Apocolype Now is a decent bar

  6. I swear never to step inside the North.  They have corrupted the country.  God I wish someone could please blast the damned Mausoleum for God's sake.

Hanoi is the "cultural" hub whereas Saigon (notice I don't use that old man's name) is the financial hub and Saigon should be part of what should've been the Republic of Vietnam (South Vietnam) if our "brothers" hadn't broken international law and invaded us.  My advice though is to not NO MATTER WHAT have anything that suggests you're rich or a supporter of the former regime or you'll be harrassed.

Clever tactics and all but those communist biaches will melt in the heat some day!
