Question:

I'm going to a Japanese restaurant, what is Robata?

I looked it up in the dictionary but all it said was that Robata was a method of Japanese cooking. But what is it? Is it a roll or an actual entree? If it's an entree, what is it served with? Rice?

Like 'Chilean Sea Bass Robata' what is that?

Also what is Takami? Roll or entree?

  1. It's the Japanese version of grilling, robatayaki (or robata for short) in refined but rustic Japanese restaurants where food is cooked in front of the customer and served with excruciating simplicity.

So, 'Chilean Sea Bass Robata' would be just grilled Chilean sea bass.  Sounds delicious, go & enjoy the experience!

Takami is actually a proper Japanese name, the restaurant may have named an entree or roll by that name to honor somebody most likely.

  2. the robata - a traditional cooking style of Hokkaido in northern Japan where the day's catch is grilled on small fires. At Tei Tei, oak charcoal is used and the grilled offerings include the expected grilled seafood as well as grilled vegetables, poultry and meats. Also ofered are specials that change with the season and market availability.

Not sure what Takami is. I was not able to find anything about it that has to do with food.
